We participate in the United Nations Global Compact
On July 11, 2005, MKI formally joined the UN's Global Compact, a voluntary international corporate citizenship network that promotes responsible corporate citizenship. The burgeoning movement intends to strengthen global markets with universal principles on human rights, labour standards, environmental sustainability and anti-corruption practices. The Compact seeks to contribute to the UN Secretary General's vision for corporations: that they build more sustainable and inclusive global markets by embedding in them shared values that will provide access and opportunities for the world's poorest, most vulnerable populations.

The principles of the Global Compact
At the World Economic Forum, Davos, January 31 1999, UN Secretary General Kofi A. Annan challenged world business leaders to "embrace and enact" the Global Compact, both in their individual corporate practices and by supporting appropriate public policies. The Global Compact's operational phase was launched at UN Headquarters in New York on July 26, 2000. During the first Global Compact Leaders Summit, held June 24, 2004 at UN Headquarters in New York, the Secretary General announced the addition of a tenth principle against corruption.
